We live in a world of constant conflicts that are fought out with weapons. Many of these weapons are manufactured here in Europe and in Germany in particular. The young adult novel “Der tote Rottweiler” by Heike Brandt tells a story in which young people question this practice. We invite you to a reading together with the author.

The lecture will be held in german.

“Der tote Rotweiler”

Bobi, Amal, Manuel, and Natalie are preparing a school project: “Peace without weapons,” a slogan from the last century, but still highly relevant, they believe. “Dreamers!” say the people in their class. The more the four delve into their topic, the more outraged they become about the arms trade, which causes so much death and misery, but on which almost the entire city depends, including their own families. Soon, it is no longer enough for them to research and present; they want to shake up the people in their city. Something has to change, from the ground up. That requires radical action.
Julika, who happens to join the group, also wants to take radical action. Her parents are senior executives at the arms company, and in her family, weapons are simply part of hunting or shooting clubs. It is only when Julika’s dog Bello is shot that she notices the cracks in the seemingly perfect family image and uncovers carefully guarded secrets.
